Brazil!
November 5, 2007 | 2007

In March 2007, a lucky group of JAs traveled to Brazil for ten days of studio visits, gallery tours, eating, drinking, and serious shopping. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our hosts and were able to meet with some of the most amazing artists and collectors in São Paolo and Rio. Particularly memorable moments included: a poolside dinner, organized for us at a beautiful home filled with modern and contemporary Brazilian art, with live music and a caipirinha bar; a dinner with a fabulous Brazilian collector who played DJ all night (while dancing around the house), also with a caipirinha bar; our entire group (curator and all!) attending a samba class and putting our moves to test later at a club called Rio Scenarium; visiting Galpão Aplauso, an arts school for children from the favelas (at the end of their performance for us, there was not a dry eye in the house); and a private sunset cruise in the Guanabara Bay, taking us from Niemeyer’s Contemporary Art Museum back to our hotel, with live music, samba, and a caipirinha bar!
